Episode 9
In this episode Stephen is seen in the Librarian’s room, discoursing on
his interpretation of Hamlet. While this discussion is going on, Bloom copies
the advertisement he needs from the Kilkenny People. The significance of
this episode lies in the second encounter between Stephen and Bloom, the
latter bringing the scene to a close when he glides out of the National
Library between Stephen and Mulligan.

Episode 9 was written in Zurich. The first part was finished October 1918, and the second part was completed in February 1919. The whole episode was published in The Little Review in April and May 1919.
